![]() The Island of Crete: Breathtaking beauty, ancient architecture, world-class history and culture, the Mediterranean, fabulous food, and the birthplace of Zeus, King of the Gods! Greece has been on my mind for a long time, but I was never sure how southern Europe was going to fit my itinerary. Now that an opportunity arose that I can't pass up, I'm going to make it fit. A couple of weeks ago I saw a notice online from a couple needing someone to look after their vacation villa on the island of Crete, which includes two dogs and a cat, for 11 weeks. I figured it was a long shot, but I responded and introduced myself. We chatted online a few times, settled on the terms, and voila! Next Tuesday I'm boarding a flight to Crete. All aforementioned plans have been put on the travel shelf. It's not your typical house-sitting deal because I'm paying rent. But the cost is within my budget-travel range and at a steep discount from the usual price for a place like this. Check out the web site for Yes Crete Retreat. It's a beautiful property, and the animals and I will be the only ones there the entire time, an ideal situation for the writing I want to do and for exploring a place I've always wanted to visit. Did I mention there's dogs?!!! I'm really excited about this! Will keep you posted.
